This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your talent in 3D Game Art. This competition provides a platform where participants will go through a creative and physical endurance test building an asset by modeling & texturing the asset, to claim the coveted Bengaluru GAFX Game Art Champion’s title.

All participants will assemble under a common roof on the given day and compete to create the most compelling 3D Game Art which includes modeling & texturing in a controlled setting. The theme will be revealed prior to the start of the challenge.

There will be separate categories for Students and Professionals.

Students: The theme will revolve around a prop, that Game studios usually look for in entry-level 3D Game artists.

Professionals: The theme will revolve around Hard Surfacing modeling, that studios usually look for in experienced 3D Game artists.

Theme: The theme will be revealed prior to the start of the competition.

The participant has to provide the final model and 5 screen shots / rendered images + 5 wire frame images of the model (front, left, right, back and perspective of the model) for judging.

Tools: Participants will be provided with systems preloaded with Autodesk Maya software for students and Autodesk Maya & Zbrush for professionals.

Mentoring: Participants will have access to  mentoring from Industry leaders during the course of the competition.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. A panel of experts from the Industry will judge the competition.
  2. Most important criteria for judging will be the quality, and likeability of the model/texture for gaming. Strong emphasis will be laid on the appeal of the overall model.
  3. The decision of the judges is final, based on the criteria set out in the competition, and no negotiation will be entertained over this decision.
  4. Participants will be purely judged based on the final output. No heed shall be played on the texture or light of the model, but only on the model & texture and appeal values.
  5. Participants have to provide the final model with textures and 5 render images + 5 wire frame of the model (front, left, right, back and perspective of the model) for judging.
  6. The poly-count has to be as minimum as possible.
  7. Participants will be disqualified if he/she is caught using any existing models/textures.

As a mark of celebration on this momentous occasion, Dhruva Interactive is awarding mentorships to 20 talented artists at GAFX. The awardees will get an opportunity to get mentored by experts from Dhruva on 3D game art creation. This is also to tap the unexplored potential out there and encourage artists who might be talented but are yet to explore the game art creation pipeline.

10 out of the 20 positions are reserved for candidates who are participating in the Game Art Challenge at GAFX event and the remaining 10 are up for grabs for the public/Audience/participants of the event. Interested candidates are requested to register at Dhruva Interactive Booth.

  • How do I participate?

You need to register for the competition and follow all the relevant guidelines, and important dates mentioned on the site here.

  • Is this competition open for Students / Professionals? What if I am part-time studying and part-time working?

The competition has two separate categories – Students and Professionals. Be sure to select the appropriate category while filling the Registration Form. If you are a part-time student and part-time working professional, you will qualify under the Student Category.

Participants must share a link to their work in the Registration Form to be selected for the competition. Only the best of the best will be selected and pitted against each other for the competition.

  • Do I need to ‘light / render’ my final entry? 

You will be purely judged based on your 3D Game asset model & texrture output. Don’t waste your time in lighting your model, the focus will purely be on the Model, texture  and appeal values.

  • When will the theme of the competition be announced? 

Theme of the challenge and other specific details pertaining to this category will be revealed just before the start of the challenge. It is advised to arrive one hour prior to the start of the challenge.

  • Apart from the prizes, will the winning entries receive feedback on the submission? 

Yes. If you would like the judges or an industry expert would give you a personal feedback, either via a Live Video Call or Recorded Session.

  • What are the timings of the Competition?The competition will be begin on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 8:00 AM.

Check in would start at 7:00 AM and close at 8:00 AM. You are requested to reach the venue for registration by 7:00 AM.

  • I submitted my Registration before the deadline. Can I re-submit if I want to?

Yes, you can. Finalists will be shortlisted post the registration deadline on May 5, 2017.
