This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your talent as a Modeling Artist. This competition provides a platform where participants will go through a creative and physical endurance test building an asset by modeling & texturing the asset, to claim the coveted Bengaluru GAFX 3D Modeling Champion’s title.

All participants will assemble under a common roof on the given day and compete to create the most compelling 3D Model in a controlled setting.

There will be separate categories for Students and Professionals.

Students: The theme will revolve around a prop, that studios usually look for in entry-level 3D modeling artists.

Professionals: The theme will revolve around Character modeling, that studios usually look for in an experienced Modeling artist.

Theme: The theme will be revealed prior to the start of the competition.

The participant has to provide the final model and 5 screen shots / rendered images + 5 wire frame images of the model (front, left, right, back and perspective of the model) for judging.

Tools: Participants will be provided with systems preloaded with Autodesk Maya software for students and Autodesk Maya & Zbrush for professionals.

Mentoring: Participants will have access to  mentoring from Industry leaders during the course of the competition. The winners take home exciting prizes and will wear the champion’s title till the next year’s edition.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  1. A panel of experts from the Industry will judge the competition.
  2. Most important criteria for judging will be the quality, and likeability of the Character / Hard Surface model. Strong emphasis will be laid on the appeal of the Character / Hard Surface model.
  3. The decision of the judges is final, based on the criteria set out in the competition, and no negotiation will be entertained over this decision.
  4. The participant will be purely judged based on the model output. No heed shall be played on the texture or light of the model, but only on the 3D Modeling and appeal values.
  5. The contestant has to provide the final model and 5 render images + 5 wire frame of the model (front, left, right, back and perspective of the model) for judging.
  6. The poly count does not matter.
  7. The participant will be disqualified if he/she is caught using any existing models.

  • How do I participate?

You need to register for the competition and follow all the relevant guidelines, and important dates mentioned on the site here.

  • Is this competition open for Students / Professionals? What if I am part-time studying and part-time working?

The competition has two separate categories – Students and Professionals. Be sure to select the appropriate category while filling the Registration Form. If you are a part-time student and part-time working professional, you will qualify under the Student Category.

Participants must share a link to their work in the Registration Form to be selected for the competition. Only the best of the best will be selected and pitted against each other for the competition.

  • What software/hardware will be provided?

Participants will be provided with systems preloaded with Autodesk Maya software for students and Autodesk Maya & Zbrush for professionals.

  • Do I need to ‘light / render’ my final entry?

You will be purely judged based on your 3D gray scale model. Don’t waste your time in lighting your model, the focus will purely be on the Model and its appeal values.

  •  When will the theme of the competition be announced?

Theme of the challenge and other specific details pertaining to this category will be revealed just before the start of the challenge. It is advised to arrive one hour prior to the start of the challenge.

  • Apart from the prizes, will the winning entries receive feedback on the submission?

Yes. If you would like the judges or an industry expert would give you a personal feedback, either via a Live Video Call or Recorded Session.

  • What are the timings of the Competition?

The competition will be begin on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 8:00 AM. Check in would start at 7:00 AM and close at 8:00 AM. You are requested to reach the venue for registration by 7:00 AM.

  • I submitted my Registration before the deadline. Can I re-submit if I want to?

Yes, you can. Finalists will be shortlisted post the registration deadline on May 5, 2017.
