The Uncle Pai Promising New Creator Award 2025 celebrates the legacy of Uncle Pai, a beloved figure who was a pioneer in creating Indian comics and inspiring countless generations. This award recognizes and honours emerging creators who exhibit exceptional talent and promise in developing comics for children. By highlighting their work, the award aims to encourage and motivate new creators, providing them with the recognition they deserve and inspiring them to continue pursuing their passions. It serves as a tribute to Uncle Pai’s enduring influence while nurturing the next generation of creative minds.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The creator should be a citizen of India
  • The creator should be above 18 years of age
  • The creator should be unpublished, i.e. not published by any other publisher. This should be their debut.
  • A team of artists and writers who have worked on a single comic, can also apply for the award. In such a case, all creators should be above 18, citizens of India, and the award would be shared between them.

Rules

  • The comic/graphic novel should be on themes which would be beneficial, inspiring or entertaining for children in the 8-15 age group.
  • No graphic depiction of violence, sex or adult themes would be allowed.
  • The comic should be exactly of the size 7 x 9.5 inches.
  • The comic should be between 4- 32 pages.
  • The comic should be in English.
  • The comic should be sent as a high-res PDF and CMYK format with text on a separate layer. The b/w art and colours should be in separate layers. It should be accompanied by a covering document/synopsis and a profile document of the creator.
  • . If the comic is less than 32 pages, it will only be published as part of Tinkle magazine or Tinkle Gold and not as a separate independent book.

Please note: Entries will be judged by the editorial and design leadership of Amar Chitra Katha on the following criteria - originality of concept/story, quality of script, art/visual quality (including illustration, panels, colouring, lettering), overall value for 8-15 yrs olds (learning and fun). The decision of the selection committee will be final and binding.
